Sonata of a Fight — Chapter 7 — Physics

Standing in the same spot, Ryan realizes what just happened to him.

Ryan has everything. Except a morning that doesn't hurt.

I stayed there. Still, in the same position.

The only thing I heard was Jack shouting.

— No. Come on. No, no, no!

It was probably the frustration of losing the bet. But, stopping to think about it now — who bets on punches? Those two were from another reality.

The tears came back. Running down my face, without me being able to control it. I was crying again.

Except it wasn't sadness. It wasn't pain. I just didn't know how to get out what I was feeling. Body and head confused.

Was this what other people called happiness?

Kim was dragging Jack by the shirt. Jack facing backward, trying to get away.

He passed by me and said only one thing:

— That wasn't power. That was physics.

And he left, taking Jack with him. To make him pay the bet, I imagine.

I smiled.

Really smiled. It had been so many years since I'd done it that the muscles in my face hurt. And I laughed.
