Innocent Until Proven Otherwise — Chapter 2 — The Invitation

The biggest party of the year, an invitation that doesn't exist and a starving sidekick.

Freddy has a black eye and a lot of anger at two guys. Jack swears they never laid a finger on him.

I'm very popular at school. That's a fact. But I get the feeling people are too shy to invite me and my boy to their social gatherings. Must be intimidation.

So I make it easy for them. I follow everybody online, I keep up with the videos and pictures announcing the events, and I grant people the privilege of my presence without them ever having to ask.

The process with Kim is always the same. I invite him, he says he doesn't want to go, I say "fine, then we'll go somewhere else." In the end we go where I wanted. Anyone who read my other story knows the drill.

On Thursday, I was looking at some pictures a guy named Freddy kept posting. Biggest party of the year, according to him: top-shelf liquor, delicious food and beautiful ladies on site. And me, always keeping an ear on the hallway gossip, I noticed everybody was talking about it.

I decided on the spot. My boy and I were going to honor this event with our presence.

— Clear your schedule tomorrow night. We're going out.

Kim gave me that face of his. It's hard to describe: boredom and suspicion at the same time. I never really know what he's feeling.
