Innocent Until Proven Otherwise — Chapter 5 — Doctor Freddy

The music stops. A furious blond comes down with his crew — and Jasmine points at Jack.

Freddy has a black eye and a lot of anger at two guys. Jack swears they never laid a finger on him.

You know him as Freddy. I use the name so you can keep up, but at the time I had no idea who he was. All I knew was that some guy named Freddy was throwing a party.

Down came Doctor Freddy with his entourage.

One of those small entourages, you know? Skinny little dudes, scrawny, not into the gym, not into posting shirtless pics online. Just thirteen, fourteen grown men coming down the stairs behind him.

And me, I don't know why, I could feel it in the air that it was Kim's fault.

So I kept to myself. I grabbed a bottle and tucked it under my arm, because I had a feeling the party was about to end.

Freddy searching and searching, until the tiniest one of the entourage, a six-foot-seven refrigerator, pointed at me.

I had the bottle in my mouth. I looked left, looked right. People started stepping back, and I was left standing alone in the middle.

— That's him.

Oh, hell no. What does this ugly son of a gun want?

I didn't get that it was about me. I was just drinking, minding my business. I hadn't hit anybody that night yet.

— Jasmine! — Freddy yelled.

And the brown-skinned girl with wickedness in her eyes stepped up next to him.
